Poor man returns thousands of dollars that fell out of security van

Police told him he was “one in a million”.

A POOR BUT honest California man who found a bag filled with thousands of dollars on the street returned it because he wanted to make his family proud.

Joe Cornell, who told reporters that he has only $1 a day to spend on lunch, was volunteering at a local charity when he saw a Brinks armoured van stopping nearby.

The driver dropped something in the middle of the street on his way back into the van, but drove away without noticing.

On investigating, Cornell found a bag filled piles and piles of dollar bills totalling $125,000.

Cornell never even thought of keeping the money, saying:

I thought, ‘What type of man do I want my grandkids to think I am?’ I want them to think I’m a just man that does the right thing and I did the right thing.

He immediately called the police, who said he was ‘one in a million’ for returning the bag of money.

According to KMPH, his wife was so happy to hear about his honesty that she burst into tears.

She says she’s so proud of him for giving the money back, especially when they are so poor.

The man has not yet received a reward for giving back the cash.
